Seal of Disaster Preparedness (SDP

The Seal of Disaster Preparedness, as an award and incentive, is conferred to a local government which demonstrates an acceptable level of disaster preparedness and disaster preparedness response before and during calamities, as an official symbol of excellence.

Objectives of the Seal

1) To recognize and incentivize local government performance in institutionalizing disaster preparedness.

2) To assess performance gaps, provide policy or program intervention based on the identified gaps, and monitor performance progress.

SDP follows two levels of assessment. Level 1 is for Disaster Preparedness, including criteria on Leadership Structure, Guide to Action, Disaster Preparedness, Partnership, Volunteerism and Innovation. Level 2 is for Disaster Preparedness Response focused on Search and Rescue, and Evacuation Center Management.

In 2012, 22 high risk cities/municipalities in CAR underwent the Level 1 Assessment. SDP Passers are still undergoing national validation.
