Salintubig Implementers gain more support

Representatives of six municipalities in the Cordillera Administrative Region and two from the Cagayan Valley Region were participants of a training workshop to equip themselves with knowledge and skills to operate and maintain water supply system under the “Sagana at Ligtas na Tubig Para sa Lahat Program” (Salintubig) on September 18-20, 2012 at the Hotel Veniz, Baguio City.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government CAR, Office of Project Development Services – DILG OPDS) and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) administered the activity. Municipal Planning and Development Coordinators and municipal engineers or their representatives from Calanasan, Conner, Flora, Pudtol, Kabugao in Apayao,  Tineg in Abra, Sto. Nino in Cagayan and Kayapa in Nueva Vizcaya had workshops in the operation and maintenance of water supply facilities/well drilling supervision.

Joe Foltz, Deputy Chief of the USAID Office of the Energy, Environment and Climate Change, appreciated the progress of the project implementation in CAR and Cagayan Valley region after seeing photographs of the on-going projects. DILG CAR RD John Castaňeda, for his part, was happy to meet and interact with the local project implementers encouraging them to speed up completion of their projects in order for the beneficiaries to have access to safe and potable water the soonest possible time and qualify for performance incentives under the department’s Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH).

The Salintubig Program is designed to provide water supply systems for the waterless towns, health centers and resettlement sites. For 2012, the Program covers 80 municipalities, 43 barangays, 46 health centers, and 12 resettlement sites nationwide.

The DILG Regional Director said that under the program, a recipient waterless town is allocated P7 million while a waterless barangay gets P3 million to implement a water supply system. Requirements to qualify as recipient include passing the SGH; and the submission of feasibility studies and detailed engineering design, among others.
