Tinglayan Municipal Mayor Fernando M. Abay exhorted his constituents to put more worth on local heroism by supporting the bid for regional autonomy. According to the mayor there are leaders who died before the dream of Cordillera autonomy can be achieved so their efforts should not be wasted. He urged those present during the convocation to support the move towards autonomy at the same time saluted the national heroes as well as the local Peace and Order advocates. He made this challenge on August 28, 2012 during the celebration of National Heroes Day at the Tinglayan Municipal Hall Poblacion, Tinglayan, Kalinga.

The chief executive also praised the departed Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government Jesse Robredo whom he described as one who “did not talk too much but had a lot of exemplary accomplishments,“ this, the Mayor said, is a moral legacy modern day heroes like Robredo showed.

The celebration was concluded with the planting of 300 Pine tree seedlings in the area above the municipal hall.
