Re-electionist LCEs dominate May 2013 Elections in CAR

The May 2013 Elections is dominated by re-electionists local chief executives (LCEs) with a total of 61 (73%) out of the 83 governors and mayors in the Cordillera.


Of the six (6) provinces, only Ifugao has a new provincial governor. The re-elected provincial governors together with the Baguio and Tabuk City mayors are all now on their second terms. Among the 75 municipal mayors, 56 are re-electionists (75%) while 13 (16%) are newly elected and eight (8) (9%) are comebacking or veteran politicians.


As to the political affiliations of the winning LCEs, 50 of them are allies of the present administration while 12 are independent candidates.


The conduct of mid-terms elections in the region was generally peaceful. The Philippine Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-Cor) ensured peaceful election as some 3,744 police and military personnel were deployed for election duties in 1,370 polling place in the region. ###
